Make A More Informed Choice Prestige Mazda Hoods are engineered to meet or exceed OEM standards of construction and precise fit. As a consumer you need to be aware that not all aftermarket MX5 Hoods are made in the same way. We incorporate many original and unique features into the construction of our hoods that help to resist premature shrinkage and water ingress. These features are explained below. For the benefit of comparison we compare this with a similarly priced but differently constructed aftermarket hood. By knowing and understanding that not all Mazda hoods are made in the same way you will be better informed when comparing and making your purchasing choice.
ORIGINAL MAZDA & PRESTIGE HOOD	NON ORIGINAL HOOD

Bonded Double Faced Edges to Resist Shrinkage See the difference between these two photo's
The sides of the original Mazda & Prestige Hood are double skinned. (See left picture). This is achieved by gluing a second layer of material around the insides of the hood. This second layer re-enforces the sides of the hood and also carries the side tensioning cable. The side tensioning cable is passed through the material and held tightly sandwiched within the sides of the hood fabric. This arrangement not only provides an effective tight seal against the folding frame but the double layer also provides superior resistance to damage and shrinkage.	Some after market hoods for Mk.1 MX5 that we have seen omit to glue the re-enforcement material to the inside of the hood. (See right picture). Instead there is simply a loose flap sewn to the inside edge of the hood through which the tension cables will pass. This is a far quicker and easier construction method that is not original for the Mk.1 MX5 hood.

Prestige one piece hoods feature a zip window that is bonded into the hood. Many after market hoods of this design stitch the rear window into the hood. Bonding is a more costly and time consuming process but the advantages are very clear. It is many times stronger than stitching, aesthetically looks like a standard OEM 2 piece hood and most importantly it eliminates the possibility of water ingress through unsealed stitches.	Prestige MX5 hoods have original style re-enforced edges to all fixing points. Fixing holes are pre-cut for easy installation.

MAZDA MX5 Mk.1 REPLACEMENT HOODS

This hood will maintain the originality of your car and is the only hood where the rear zip window section can be purchased and replaced as a separate part. Our MX5 hood, codes "2700" & “2704” offer the choice of a more modern one piece hood with a seamless roof design (no raised roof seams).

The Enthusiasts Choice The “2710” replacement hood is identical to the original factory hood design. This hood is a 2 piece design which means that the zip out rear window is a separate part that can be replaced if damaged. MAZDA MX5 Mk.1 1 PIECE HOOD
The very latest in Soft Top design eliminates the need for seams on top of the main roof section. This is a design feature found on most new convertibles from Porsche, MG and of course the latest Mazda MX-5. Prestige Hoods has incorporated this improved feature into a replacement hood for earlier Mazda MX-5 and Eunos vehicles built from 1989-1997. These pictures illustrate the improved appearance and fit that results. You can see that the roof section is constructed from a single seamless piece of vinyl as opposed to the traditional 3 section roof that has two seams running front to back. (Compare with your existing hood). Eliminating the necessity to cut and sew the roof in 3 sections brings tremendous benefits in terms of improved fit and appearance, not to mention the long term durability benefits that a seamless roof provides. We have also incorporated anti-drip rain gutters above the door glass and of course provide the option for a fixed or a zip rear window.

Rear Window Replacement? Replacing a rear window is not as simple as you might think. It requires the complete removal of the old hood from the frame. In addition the new zips are not interchangeable with the old ones and you will need to sew one half of the new zip to the flap located on the inside of the main roof section. (Behind the rear frame bow). We advise that you give due consideration to the condition and age of the old hood before proceeding with a window only replacement. "CV" Vinyl is the original replacement for the factory vinyl hood. Mohair fabric is a superior upgrade in quality and is highly recommended.
