PRESTIGE
Miata Heated Glass Window Top

Important Glass Window Top Information.

There are many different manufacturers of glass window tops for the Mazda Miata.  As a Mk.1 Miata owner you will already be aware that your top was originally designed with a zippered clear plastic rear window. The Mk.2 Miata top was designed by Mazda with a heated glass rear screen and no zipper. This is the preferred specification for glass window tops. Many customers ask if they can have a zippered glass window. We have considered this approach and done some testing of these tops on our fleet vehicles. We have found that the glass exerts some considerable weight onto the zip. This makes it very difficult to zip down and in particular to zip back up again. (It was never easy on a standard plastic window and the potential to damage the zip during normal operation is greatly increased). In addition the extra weight of the glass is considerable enough to cause the rear window panel to sag.

The Prestige Glass Window Top is not compromised by the limitations of the old zippered design. It is based on the same design as the original Miata Mk.2 top. The top is designed for a glass window and folding couldn't be easier. We have maintained all the original features of our standard tops with bonded double edged seams and extra reinforcements where necessary. Fitting of this top is well within the capabilities of the average enthusiasts with no special tools or skills required. All fixing holes are pre-cut for a perfect fit and the top is simply screwed and bolted to the frame. (No trimming necessary).

Compare These Superior Features

Easier Folding Of Top
The Prestige Convertible Top is designed in the same way as the original Mazda Miata Mk.2 top and folds in one simple easy movement up and down. (No messing around to un-zip the window first).

Heated Rear Screen

Quality Enhancements

The glass window is heated (requires original Mazda parts for wiring up to). We use the same contoured glass as seen in the original Mk.2 top. (Some glass window tops have flat glass).

At the front we've incorporated a black moulding as used on the original Mk.2 top. This makes installation to the header rail a little easier but most of all provides for a much neater appearance.

Make A More Informed Choice

Prestige Miata Convertible Tops are engineered to meet or exceed OEM standards of construction and precise fit. As a consumer you need to be aware that not all aftermarket Miata convertible tops are made in the same way. We incorporate many original and unique features into the construction of our tops that help to resist premature shrinkage and water ingress. These features are explained below. For the benefit of comparison we compare this with a similarly priced but differently constructed aftermarket top. By knowing and understanding that not all Miata tops are made in the same way you will be better informed when comparing and making your purchasing choice.

Bonded Double Faced Edges to Resist Shrinkage
See the difference between these two photo's

The sides of the original Mazda & Prestige Convertible Top are double skinned. (See left picture). This is achieved by gluing a second layer of material around the insides of the top. This second layer re-enforces the sides of the top and also carries the side tensioning cable. The side tensioning cable is passed through the material and held tightly sandwiched within the sides of the top fabric. This arrangement not only provides an effective tight seal against the folding frame but the double layer also provides superior resistance to damage and shrinkage.

Some after market convertible tops for Mk.1 Miata that we have seen omit to glue the re-enforcement material to the inside of the top. (See right picture). Instead there is simply a loose flap sewn to the inside edge of the top through which the tension cables will pass. This is a far quicker and easier construction method that is not original for the Mk.1 Miata top.
